I offer a portrait commission service creating hand drawn pen and ink illustrations on artist paper.. I usually work from photographs, which I take of the sitter, but can if needed work from supplied images. All work is in black and white, though I do occasionally use a limited amount of flat colour.

As a magical realist artist I have a specific style, but I am more than willing to work with you to create a piece in a style of your choosing .. Magical realism by the way blends realism with the ‘fantastic’, in order to create a deeper understanding of reality.

Process
The process of creating a portrait is relatively simple. You may have an idea of how you would like to be portrayed, if not we can discuss this. You might want to be dressed in particular clothing, holding something that is important to you or in a certain area. When we have finalised an idea, I would then take a number of photographs of you and anything you might like to appear in the piece.

If we are working from a distance then I will advice you on what kind of images will be required and how to take them.

I then begin the portrait in pencil and when I am happy, move onto the pen and ink process. I use only the highest quality inks and paper.

Prices vary with size and content, below I have included a rough  guide to what a commission could cost.

A4 (21x30cm) £160
A3 (30x42cm) £360
A2 (60x84cm) £600

Each portrait will require discussion and an individual quote. Please do allow 28 days for me to complete your portrait, if you need it by a particular date do ask and I will see what I can do. Your portrait will be packed well and sent special delivery to ensure it reaches you safely.

Size
Traditional portraits are usually around A2 size (60×84 cm) unframed, although my style very well suits half this size. I am very happy to discuss your needs in terms of budget, content and where the picture will eventually hang.
